Watch this video!
As the fall semester comes to a close, it looks like we will have the required six students (minimum) to hold class this May, 2009. That's great news---thanks Coe students! If you are one of those students, and even if you are not, please watch this video. If you are signed up for class, this video will give you a preview on some of the ideas we will explore in class. We will also watch other TED programs, and use the TED model to discuss what your individual passion is, and, equally important, how your passion contributes to the common good. With that said, please watch anything else that iterests you on the TED site. And as you wait and plan for Bicycle Writing class to begin, think about what you want to bring to the Bicycle Writing group, how it contibutes to the common good, how you will articulate those ideas in writing, and how you make those articulated ideas visible on our Web pages for 2009. (By the way, that's your first assignment.)

Important information for May Term 2009

Apply Now!
Changes for May Term 2009 mean that you need to be apply, interview, register, and pay at least half your fee before January 22, 2009. Get started right now with your application.

2009 Calendar
Change is in the air, because the 2009 calendar is different this year too. We start later, which places the Memorial Day holiday right in the middle of the term. It's not ideal, but together we can make it work. Make sure you check out the calendar before you commit to the class. We are on the go almost every day of the month. calendar

First Railroad Excursion
There's a little-known hobbie known as railroad excursions, and we did our first one today. It's another fun way to enjoy the Iowa countryside and take a break from cycling. Slideshow

Clive Greenbelt Trail is close to resident's doorstep
During the 2008 May Term BW class, I ran into a woman on the trail who was willing to talk about what it is like to have the Clive Greenbelt Trail access in her front yard. More

Bicycle Haiku
Every day, if I have Internet access, I read one of my favorite Web sites, called BoingBoing. Today I saw an entry there about Kevin Kelly, the founder of Wired magazine, who rode his bike across the US and wrote one haiku and created one sketch each day. Note: there is an advertisement inserted in the short clip.
