English Department Senior Thesis Proposal Form -- Literary Study

Are you writing the thesis as part of the Coe Scholars program?
Are you writing the thesis for English Department Honors?

Working title of your thesis:

List courses taken in English Department, Term, Instructor.
List other courses relevant to your proposed thesis topic taken outside English Dept.

Write a brief description (500-1000 words) of your proposed thesis project. Your description should include answers to the following questions:

- What do you expect your finished thesis to contain?
- Why are you interested in this particular project?
- What excites you the most about it?
- What formal or informal preparation do you have for taking on this task?
- What primary materials will you read to prepare? (for example, if it's a Brontë thesis, which novels will you
          read? any poetry? letters? works by other Brontës?)
- What secondary sources will you read? (biography? social history? textual criticism? literary theory? what kind?)
-  Discuss your ability and motivation to sustain and complete a large-scale independent project.

At the end of your proposal, there should be a list of texts you plan to read in preparation for writing your thesis.  This list should be in MLA bibliography form.
