STYLE
SHEET FOR HONORS THESES
I. COPIES FOR THESIS COMMITTEE
A.
Typed copies of your thesis or project must be
submitted to your advisor and each member of your
thesis committee. Since the committee may suggest
or require changes be made to your thesis or project,
be prepared to make these changes on the final
copies submitted to the Library.
B.
The style of the thesis or project shall meet
the professional standards of the discipline within
which it is written. Check with your advisor
to be sure you are adopting the correct format
for your paper. Style manuals for many
disciplines
are available in the Library.
II. FINAL (LIBRARY) COPIES
A.
If your thesis or project is approved by your
examining committee, you are required to submit
two copies suitable for binding and preservation
to Stewart Memorial Library. These copies must
be accopanied by the Registrar's form which
the
librarian accepting your copies will sign. The
permanent nature of your thesis imposes additional
constraints on format and style which are
outlined below.

MARGINS: Left = 1 1/2"; Top, Bottom, and Right
= 3/4" or more. All written material including
page numbers must be within these margins.
Graphs, tables, charts, and fold-over pages must
also be within the page margins specified. Pages
not meeting margin requirements are unacceptable.
C.
TITLE PAGE: Center your title page information
VERTICALLY on the middle of the page. Allow for
binding by HORIZONTALLY positioning information
3/4" to the RIGHT of the center. No title page
information should exceed the page margins specified
for the body of your text. Here is an Example
of a title page.
D.
TYPING: Your thesis should be double-spaced with
the exception of long quotations which are single-spaced.
Footnotes, when used, are single spaced. Your
bibliography or reference list should be typed
according to the style appropriate for your discipline.
Use a standard typeface; recommended typefaces
include Ariel, CG Times, and Courier. The
recommended font size is 12 point fo the body
of your paper and 13 or 14 point for titles, headings,
etc.
E.
CORRECTIONS AND INSERTIONS: Handwritten and fluid
corrections to your thesis are unacceptable. However,
symbols and other characters unavailable on a
typewriter or computer may be inserted neatly
by hand, using permanent black ink. The final
copies of your thesis must be free of errors in
spelling, punctuation, and grammatical structure.
F.
PRINTING: Copies submitted to the Library must
be made on a laser printer or Xerox machine. White,
20-lb. Xerox paper should be used for your copies.
Four blank sheets of the copy paper must be submitted
with the two copies of your
thesis.
