International Students At Physics Department PDF Print E-mail

International students are welcome to the Physics Department at Coe.  We have a longstanding tradition of students from all over the world coming to Coe to participate in our active, nationally-recognized program.  In recent years we have had students from Vietnam, Pakistan, Nepal, Korea, China, The Gambia, India, and Bangladesh, among others.  Our international students have gone on to great achievements and wonderful success after Coe; one of them (Mario Affatigato) even came back to be a professor!  We show some of their stories below.

We also realize that financial constraints are often a concern.  Coe is quite generous with the financial aid given to international applicants, making it possible for many to attend (around 5%, or 60/1200, of our students are from abroad).  Clearly, students with excellent academic records who are willing to work hard will receive as much help as possible.  On top of the financial aid package, our Physics program allows the students to earn both money and experience by carrying out summer research and work study in the department.  In some cases, international students may have almost all of their tuition costs covered by college scholarships and other aid.

As you can see from the rest of our website, the Coe Physics program is quite active in research.  This given our students excellent opportunities to develop as scientists, with hands on, cutting edge work, and makes them sought after by graduate programs.  Many international students have received full fellowships to go on and study physics and engineering at some of the top graduate programs upon leaving Coe.  These include Harvard (Applied Physics), Stanford (Material Science), Lehigh (Engineering), Penn State (Materials Engineering), Washington University (Computer Engineering), and many others.

If you are interested in coming to Coe, please contact Prof. Mario Affatigato ( ) and Ms. Pat Cook of the Admissions Office ( ).
