Dr. Terry McNabb, PhD (University of Iowa, 1986)

Dr. McNabb is the chair of the Teacher Education Department. This is her fifteenth year at Coe College.  Terry teaches educational psychology, social studies methods, and the student teaching seminar. Her areas of interest include academic motivation, teacher dispositions, and brain development.

In addition to her work as department chair, Dr. McNabb will travel with Coe students to Thailand and Cambodia in spring semester of 2008.

Dr. Roger Johanson, PhD (Cornell University, 1979)

Dr. Roger Johanson has been at Coe College for twenty-three years. Roger teaches methods of elementary mathematics, mathematical foundations for teaching, foundations of education, courses in the MAT program, and a first-year seminar. Dr. Johanson also directs Coe's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. 

Dr. Johanson has taught student study classes in Costa Rica six times; he received a Fulbright Scholarship in 1992 to study cognitive development in Costa Rica. Roger coaches the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Cross Country team.

Dr. Christy Wolfe, PhD (University of Iowa, 2007), JD (University of Iowa, 1998)

Dr. Wolfe is in her fourth year at Coe College. She teaches foundations of education and human relations. Christy's research areas include school choice, social justice education, and teacher preparation.

Dr. Nancy Hayes, PhD (University of Iowa, 2004)

Dr. Hayes joined the Teacher Education Department at Coe College in the fall of 2009. She teaches foundations of education and social studies methods and literacy methods. Nancy's research areas include adult and family literacy, second language acquisition, and teacher preparation.

Professor Sarah Kress, MA (Drake, 2005)

Professor Kress is responsible for many of the courses related to literacy. With over ten years of teaching experience, Sarah brings a unique blend of expertise and practice to the program. Sarah also supervises student teachers.
