Overview

State Standards - Italics

EDU 205 Educational Foundations

An introductory course typically taken first in the sequence. Includes introduction to contemporary issues facing American schools. Structure of American education, philosophies of education, professional ethics and legal responsibilities, AV/media/computer technology, introduction to instructional planning.

EDU 215 Practicum in Education

First formal field experience, classroom management, further consideration of lesson and unit planning, Bloom's Taxonomy, instructional skill development.

EDU 235 Educational Psychology

Introduction to the psychological study of learning, psychology of teaching, and evaluation techniques.

EDU 257 Exceptional Learner

Introduction to the diverse student populations, including students with special needs; talented and gifted students; and culturally heterogeneous students.

EDU 387 Human Relations

Introduction to diversity: cultural, ethnic, religious, age, sexual. Satisfies the state's human relations requirement.

All methods courses focus on curriculum organization and development; methods of teaching the particular subject/grade level;  attention to instructional planning; classroom management techniques and strategies; and AV/media/computer technology.

* Note: Some methods courses require up to 30 hours of field experience

Student Teaching: 14 week total - two 7-week placements
