Timeline: 1941-1951

1941

• Harry Morehouse Gage resigns from the college's presidency.  C. Harve Geirger serves as interim president.

• Coe wins its first Midwest Conference Basketball Championship; Willis lamb is head coach. crown.

1942

• Charles Anderson is appointed president of the college.

1944

• Following the resignation of Charles Anderson, C. Harve Geiger is again called upon to serve as interim president of the college. This time for the 1941-1942 school year.

1945

• The Board of Trustees selects Byron Hollinshead to become the eighth president of Coe College.

1947

• Sinclair Memorial Chapel is burned down by a disgruntled janitor on September 4th.

1949

• Coe is granted a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

1950

• Following the departure of Byron Hollinshead, Edgar C. Cumings is appointed president of the college on October 12th.

• Hickok Hall, named after Professor Charles Hickok, is erected.

1951

• Edgar C. Cumings leaves Coe's presidency for "federal duties," having the shortest tenure of any president in Coe's history.

• The Board appoints Coe's business manager, Howell Brooks, president of the college.

• Sinclair Memorial Chapel is completely rebuilt.
