5th annual Coe drag show -- hosted by the ever-lovely Joy Begnaud -- goes off without a hitch, prompting much rejoicing from Calliance fans. Co-moderator Kate Callahan and secretary Matt Hemesath walk off, to no one's surprise, with the respective crowns for King and Queen. Over $256 is raised for the Rapids AIDS Project; by our estimates, the cash bar likely makes twice as much.

Pride Week was a big success, with Steve Capsuto as speaker, Operation Safe Zone, the yearly ally workshop, a panel discussion on gay marriage, and a dance to end with.

The 4th Annual Coe Alliance drag show was a smashingly groovy success with almost 500 people showing up...there were queens, kings, and some really cute prince charmings (as far as Andrew Lenz was concerned.)

The 3rd Annual Alliance Drag Show - 'Sister Act' - is held with an amazing turnout. Eric Cline (as Madonna) and Kate Callahan (as Warren Beatty) win the Best Act award with "Now I'm Following You," Matthew Hemesath wins the Best Dressed Female award, and Nialle Woods walks off with the crown for Best Dressed Male. And there is much rejoicing.

After hearing testimony from 8:30 PM to 12:30 AM, the City Council passed the addition of the words "sexual orientation" to the Cedar Rapids civil rights nondiscrimination ordinance. This makes Cedar Rapids the third city in Iowa (behind Ames and Iowa City) to include people of all sexual orientations as a protected class.
