Uses of Statistics

Throughout the ages people have found uses for statistics.

But it wasn't until quite recently that people started to formally study statistics.

 

The modern study of statistics

started in the early 1900s.

 

At this time a young chemist & mathematician named William Gosset worked for the Guinness brewery in Dublin, Ireland. There he created new statistical techniques to help brew consistently good beer.

 

But why is it important for us to study statistics?
