Old Home Renovation


            Whether you’re doing it yourself or hiring a professional, renovating an old house is no easy undertaking. Still, many people prefer to buy old houses, according to Greg Cleveland of Cedar Rapids, who renovates old homes to sell. “Some people just like the character and quality of older homes,” says Cleveland.

            But before you consider buying an old house and renovating it, be sure to have it inspected by a professional. Jeff Tegeler, co-owner of Tegeler Design Center advises remodeling clients to go to the basement first. “If the foundation and floor structure are bad, I tell them the house isn’t worth it.” It costs too much to repair an old foundation, and it may be nearly impossible if floors are sagging.
