Frank had never really believed in the art of hypnotism. He always just figured that it was really fake and the people that were being hypnotized were set up to act the way they did. One day, he was talked into trying it and the events that it led to changed his life forever.
Frank had just moved in to the city from a small rural farm because he knew many of the people that lived around the area. Not only had they moved there because they knew people, but Frank and his wife Missy's marriage wasn't doing so good. Missy was a city girl before she met Frank. She hated being out in the rural parts and living on a farm. They both felt that if they moved into town, they could start over with a less stressful life. Frank worked as a carpenter, which he felt caused the most stress in his life. He always felt that he was much underpaid and feels he really "shot" himself in the foot by not taking up the business with his old partner John Deirks. John and Frank had been partners and friends since they were kids when they both lived outside of the city. Although it sounded like a good idea, Frank was always a little skeptical to start a new business venture with John. He was kind of a cheat and a womanizer, but they were friends nonetheless. When John moved to the city he ended up building and owning a whole street full of houses, which has made him a load of money. Coincidentally, it was John from who Frank and Missy were renting their new house from in the city.
Frank and Missy were at a great party. There were people everywhere at his next-door neighbor's house. Frank and his wife Missy decided to go out for a night because Missy felt that they never went out and had fun anymore. After the party was over; Frank, Missy, Missy's sister Jane, and a few more of their friends walked to a late night restaurant to grab a bite to eat before they ended the night. They were seated in a back room of the building that was very dark and spooky. The room was lit by candle light. Normally, they would have thought this was creepy, but the booze that they had all ingested at the party had given them liquid courage and they all were still having a good time. Jane had just gone to hypnotist school and was telling them all about it when Frank piped up. "All that stuff is just a bunch of rubbish", Frank exclaimed. "So why don't you let me hypnotize you and see what you think then?" Jane replied. Frank reluctantly agreed to it and she started to perform the hypnotism on him.
Everything went dark. Frank was transported in his mind into an old basement. It felt familiar to him but he could not totally recognize where he was. The walls were cracked in spots and appeared to have a little bit of mold growing in some spots. He looked at the floor and it was covered in dark red blood. He didn't know what to think or say or even what was going on. He then looked over in the corner of the room to see a girl crouched down in almost a tornado position, hugging her knees. He could not see her face so he went up to her. "Are you alright?" he said. The girl then turned her face to him, which was bright purple and she had blood all over her. Frank began to scream! "HELP ME!" the girl said in a low, raspy voice. Frank tried to escape from the basement, but couldn't find the door. He began to panic even more as the girl got up and began to walk towards him. He crouched down in the corner and just as she reached for him, he awoke.
Frank woke up to a crowd of people staring at him. He was back in reality. Everyone who was in the room when he was first hypnotized was still there, but they all had a look of terror on their faces. "What did you see?" Jane asked, "WHAT HAPPENED?". Frank couldn't say a word, just ran out of the room and the half of a mile back to his house. After a couple of blocks, his run turned to a jog, then to a walk. As he walked to his house, he tried to think of other thoughts and he began to ponder on it. His house next door was an old Victorian house that he had rented from John, who lived down the street now. He had never figured he would ever rent this house and be putting money into John's pocket. Coincidentally, as Frank was just walking into his driveway, he looked to his right and there was John. What was he doing at that time of night? "What's wrong Frank? You look like you've just seen a ghost," John said. "You will never believe the vision I had when Missy's Sister hypnotized me!" Frank replied, "I saw a young girl, bloody and beaten in a basement, and she was asking me for help!" John must have been scared of the vision himself because he quickly said goodbye and was on his way. He directly went to his room and tried to sleep, but was waking up from nightmares about every hour.
Over the next couple of weeks, he was seeing weird things. He would walk into his house sometimes and think that he saw someone, but there wouldn't be anyone there. It was almost as if someone was watching him. He kept hearing voices that said, "Go to the basement." He thought he was losing his mind! One night as he dozed off to sleep, it was almost as if he was back in the basement. He looked around and saw the girl again. Then he looked around and studied the basement a little more. The cracked walls and the little spots of mold were the same as when he was hypnotized. He saw in the opposite corner of the girl was a box. He went over to the box and found out that it was a box of his storage. "Why was his stuff down there? What does this mean?" he thought to himself. All of the sudden, it hit him like a ton of bricks. The basement was his! He awoke and immediately ran down to the basement. He started ripping it apart with sledge hammers and shovels and whatever else he could find. He realized that there was a space between the layer of brick and the layer of concrete in the basement. Then, behind the first wall, fell the rotting corpse of a girl.
Frank yelled for Missy and thought it was her coming down the stairs. To his surprise though, it was not her. It was his friend John, which he had rented the house from. Frank looked down and saw that John had a gun in his hand. "You found my secret" he said. "It is a long story Frank. We were having an affair and she threatened to tell my wife about us. I had to do it, and now that you know I am going to have to kill you, Frank." John said. Missy heard what had been going on and ran down the stairs with the 20 gauge shotgun they always kept in the attic. She slowly crept down the stairs, hoping to force John to drop his gun. When she got to the bottom of the steps, John was about to shoot Frank. Just as John raised his gun up to shoot Frank, Missy put three shells in John's back. It was over.
It turns out that the cops had been looking for this girl for about six months prior to finding her. Frank and Missy were released from the police station after a lot of questioning. They had found their love for each other again. It was now time to start fresh and new. After it was all over frank went back to normal and never had another vision again, but he will never forget about the time he was hypnotized.
