The Rainbow Light

... ... ... ... "Those stupid vases are more important than our life, right? Ten years, see what kind of life we are living? I can only go to the market when almost everybody has gone and I can pick up those vegetables left on the ground; I can't buy new clothes for my daughter and myself, because we have to sacrifice the money for clay for your stupid vases. You are destined to be poor, none of your work has been sold at a high price, but now you dare to waste ten years on a pair of vases. I can't live with you anymore; I will take my daughter and leave you forever. You, just live with your vases!!!!" shouted the angry, desperate woman, the wife of a craftsman. He is someone like his wife described, a poor craftsman, who never gained a lot from his work. But this time, he set his mind to make something that shows his career is meaningful, even no money to earn. He was so indulged in making such a work that after ten years, his family left him and his body crept. One night, when he was about to finish, he suddenly got a severe cough. He still kept on working until the last moment. Suddenly, the vases emitted a kind of light like the rainbow. He was so amazed at the light that he named them "Dragon and Phoenix", because he drew these two animals on the vases, which are the most elegant creatures in the world. He coughed again and could not stop, he tried to stand up but blood came from his mouth and was spitted on the vases. He tried his best to open his eyes one last time and said:"Anyone who separates them will be cursed."Then, he closed his eyes forever.
After the craftsman died, his apprentice sold this pair of vases to save money for burying his master. An officer saw these vases, and he was so surprised to see that the vases could emit the rainbow light, he really liked them. He bought them and decided to give them to his majesty. When this pair of vases was brought to the palace, the palace was filled with the rainbow light. All the ministers were surprised at the sight of the light. One of them said to the majesty: Your Majesty, this pair of vases is an auspicious symbol of our country, it means you have governed the country so well that move the fairies in the heaven and he sent this pair of vases to you to praise what you have done."The majesty was so delighted by the words and he really loved the vases, so he treated them as invaluable wealth and gave a great prize to the officer. He put them in his best palace and had a feast of their light every day. These vases lived a happy life, for thousands of years, enjoying the changes of the history and the beauty of nature. They never spoke love to each other, but silent love can be the strongest.
One day, a group of robbers broke into the palace."Take away the treasures, as many as possible!" The Dragon heard the demand from the man, who seemed like the head of these robbers. He had no time to wake up the sleeping Phoenix, but with the power of his great light he lifted her gently and slipped her back into a corner of the shelf. In this way, he first discovered the power of his love.
She was awakened by the loud sounds just in time to see a robber putting the Dragon into a big bag. Since that day, she cried every day, missed him and never shone again. No news came to her about the traces of the Dragon, but she remembered the curse that the craftsman made, believing that one day they would be together again.
The robber died the next day, without any illness. Before his death, he just murmured in his dream: "Sorry, vase. I'm an evil person; I shouldn't have grabbed you from that shelf. I deserve the punishments." His family thought that the Dragon vase was not a good thing, so they sold it. Then an English antiquarian bought the vase and brought it to Britain. From the day he owned the vase, his business began to suffer an extreme decrease. Every day, he had to sell his antiques to save his life. The vase was the last to go, for he really loved it; but finally he had no choice but to sell it.
History reincarnated. A minister got the vase and again gave it to a king as a precious present. The king was crazy about this beautiful vase and put it into his favorite place, together with his other most valued things: enamel plates from France, Rosetta Stone from Egypt, the Portland Vase and some others of the most precious antiques in the world.
Unfortunately, from that day on, his valuable ornaments broke down every day, either fell down from the shelf or suddenly fell into parts without any reasons. At last, the only thing left on the shelf was the vase. The king felt strange about this, and he asked his wizard to find out the origin of this vase. The wizard brought his crystal ball and saw the life of this vase. From the moment he was created and stolen, unfortunate things happened to anyone who kept the Dragon apart from the Phoenix. The wizard finally told the king that it was a symbol of bad luck; anyone who had this vase would suffer misfortune. So the king just had it thrown into the street.
A Chinese archaeologist one day visited the U.K. One evening he was wandering on the street, he suddenly saw something shining on the ground. He walked close to it and was surprised to find it was a vase. He was extraordinarily curious about how the vase could shine, so he picked it up and brought it to his house. He found that it was an ancient Chinese jade vase with red speckles on it. He could not figure out the age of the vase, so he decided to take it back to a Chinese museum to investigate it.
When he arrived at Beijing, he immediately made a phone call to his university professor, who was also a famous and experienced archaeologist with great amount of knowledge about antiques. When the old professor came and saw the jade vase, he suddenly burst into tears."This is the happiest moment in my life, you know? This is the vase I've been looking for my whole career. Its name is Dragon, and has a inseparable partner called Phoenix. When they were together, they could shine with a unimaginable kind of light. We found the Phoenix fifty years ago, and always hoped that we could have a feast of the rainbow light. The Phoenix is now displayed in the museum and it's grey, without any beauty. They are destined to be together."
So the old man put the Dragon at the side of the Phoenix. She was still sleeping in her dream, with a tear on her face. The dragon dreamed of her for hundreds of years, and when he saw her, he had nothing to do; just shed tears silently. She was still beautiful and charming, although she couldn't shine, she was the most gorgeous being he had ever seen. He called her in a low voice, and she opened her drowsy eyes and said:" Don't talk to me, I was dreaming of my Dear Dragon." And she closed her eyes again.
The dragon said:"Hey, open your eyes, see who I am." She opened her eyes reluctantly and caught a glimpse of him. Suddenly, he saw her eyes shining with flowing tears.
"Is that really you? Dragon? Is it really you? Am I dreaming?"
He just smiled to her and said: "No, you are not dreaming, I'm back. The curse took hold. I will tell you about my experience later. we won't separate again. Nothing in this world is greater than our love." He held her in his arms, and the rainbow light shone as it had hundreds of years ago.
