Illustrations are by Anna Whelan Betts. Betts was a Philadelphia illustrator, painter, and teacher, educated at the Drexel Institute where she studied with Howard Pyle. Her illustrations appeared in Century, Harper´s and other magazines. Best known as a watercolorist, she received a bronze medal at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915.
