Day 1 Friday, August 1 – Pre-tour Camp and Bonfire

2:30 pm – 5:00 pm:  Check- in at Marquis Hall (earlier or later times by appointment)

Complete all paperwork and serial numbers with Mary in Hickok 101, get room keys

Dinner on your own

7 pm – 8:30 pm:  Concert Band rehearsal - Coe College Band Room

8:30 pm: Wind Ensemble members load bus and leave for Bonfire (Russ Kwaiser, 895-6573)

8:30 – 9:30:  Jazz Band rehearsal- Coe College Band Room

9:30:  Carson and others from Jazz Band car pool to Bonfire

9:00 - 11:30:  Bonfire at Joanne Chadima’s Farm!  (directions available here)

Bus leaves at 11:30

Day 2 Saturday, August 2 – Pre-tour Camp and Hooverfest 2003

9:30 – Donuts and Juice in Marquis Hall

10 am – 11:30 am: Concert Band rehearsal

11:30 am - 1 pm: Lunch on your own

1 pm - 3 pm: Jazz Band rehearsal

3:30 pm - 5 pm: Concert Band rehearsal

(Laura Carson to West Branch to reserve pavilion)

        5 pm: load bus (37 passengers), leave for Hoover.  Other drivers include Carson + 3 passengers, Boland, Haney, Lawrence, Sheldon, Behrens + 2 passengers (bus parking on Water Street, per Dan Peterson).  Stop by Carson’s van and carry food to pavilion.  If you have lawn chairs or blankets please bring them!

         5:45:  Barbecue!

8:30 pm: Cedar Rapids Municipal Band concert at Hooverfest, complete with synchronized FIREWORKS.

 

9:45 pm:  Load bus, other vehicles for return to Cedar Rapids

Day 3 Sunday, August 3 – Pre-tour Camp and Wind Ensemble Concert

Noon – Donuts and Juice in Marquis Hall

12:30 pm - 2 pm: Jazz rehearsal

2:30 pm – 4:00 pm: Concert Band rehearsal

4:00:  load truck (Alan Lawrence and 1 passenger) and bus (Russ Kwaiser, 895-6573, 40 passengers), and Carson van (6 passengers) for transport to Ellis Park, dress in white shirts and black pants (if you want to save your black shirt for tour, or if you need white shirt to play in CRMB), travel to Ellis Park.  If you have lawn chairs or blankets please bring them again.

5:00 – Sub sandwiches and pop at Ellis Park (rain location – band room)

6:00 setup for Coe Touring Wind Ensemble concert @ Ellis Park

6:30 pm: Coe Touring Wind Ensemble concert @ Ellis Park (rain location – Sinclair Auditorium) -

This concert will be recorded by Karrleton Recording, Ed Karr, 221-1201. 

CDs may be ordered at the concert or thereafter.

Prelude concert to Cedar Rapids Municipal Band Concert

7:30 pm: CRMB concert @ Ellis Park

8:30 pm:  Bus returns to Coe

Day 4 Monday, August 4 – Rehearsal, Jazz Performance, and Travel

9:00 – Donuts and Juice in Marquis Hall - MANDATORY SUITCASE WEIGH-IN - ALL SUITCASES MUST BE WEIGHED AND MEASURED TO INSURE THEY FIT THE SIZE AND WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS.  Anyone exceeding those requirements will need to pay the surcharge (as much as $250!) themselves, right there, at the airport.

9:30 am:  Concert Band Rehearsal at Coe

10:30 am:  Jazz Band Rehearsal at Coe (in uniform)

11:30:  All help setup for concert

Noon:  Jazz Band Concert on Gage Patio (rain location – Sinclair Auditorium)

This concert will be recorded by Karrleton Recording, Ed Karr, 221-1201. 

CDs may be ordered at the concert or thereafter.

1:00 pm:  Change out of uniform, load equipment into truck (Physical Plant)

Return room keys to Mary in Hickok 101.

To those parking cars on campus:  Please leave your cars in the large lot behind the new apartments along 14th Street.  Please use the portion of the lot closer to the Racquet Center and the football field.

IMPORTANT CHANGES IN RED BELOW:

Flight Group B leave for airport, lunch there, Flight Group A lunch on their own.

       Bus – 27 passengers, plus luggage/instruments, Carson – 3 band members, Patricks – 3 band members, Pitchers – 3 band members and luggage, Boland – 2 band members

Day 5 Tuesday, August 5 - London

11:10 am: arrival into London Heathrow.  Customs, etc.

Meet and greet by guide Liz Pairman in the arrivals hall. Load motorcoach and transfer into central London with panoramic West End sightseeing tour enroute and free time for lunch.

Sight-seeing - Buckingham Palace including the changing of the guard, Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly Circus, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square. 

3:00 pm:            Check-in to the hotel:

Day 6 Wed., August 6 – London (Southwark Cathedral - Wind Ensemble)

Continental breakfast in the hotel.

Wear your uniforms today – no changing rooms available for the concert. Bring your instrument, music, stand!

9:00 am:     Load coach and depart for the city for a sightseeing tour including admission to the Tower of London and Crown Jewels. Sight-seeing - excursion to the city of London, through the financial district, past the Stock Exchange, the Bank of England and St.Paul’s Cathedral.

Noon           Free time for lunch

1:45 pm:     Arrival at Southwark with time to set up for first concert performance - Southwark Cathedral

2:30 pm setup - Southwark Cathedral

2:50 pm Concert - Southwark Cathedral

Wind Ensemble only, 40 minutes

3:30 pm:      Concert performance finishes.

3:45 pm:      Guided tour of the Cathedral with Cathedral guide.

4:45 pm:      Load coach and return to the hotel.

Evening at leisure – take in a play, concert, etc.

Day 7 Thursday, August 7 - London

Individual sight-seeing /shopping, Optional trip to BBC Proms Concert at the Royal Albert Hall (tickets purchased in advance)- BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

Day 8 Friday, August 8 - London - Stratford (Evesham - WE & JB)

8:00:  Check-out of the hotel and load coach. Depart for Oxford

10:00:  Arrival into Oxford for a walking tour including admission to one of the principal colleges.

Noon:  Depart Oxford for Stratford upon Avon - Home of William Shakespeare with its half-timbered buildings. View Cotswolds villages along the way

12:45:  Arrival into Stratford, free time for lunch.

1:45:  Walking tour including admission to Shakespeare’s birthplace followed by free time for shopping.

4:00:  Depart Stratford for Alcester.

4:30:  Check-in to the hotel.

6:00:  Depart the hotel for Evesham.

6:30:  Arrival into Evesham and unload coach at the St. Lawrence Church. Our local contact will greet the group and give a brief introduction to this quaint village. Setup/warmup for concert

7:30: Concert  - St.Lawrence Church Hall Evesham

After the concert, civic reception in the company of the local Mayor,

refreshments will be provided. 

Return to the Kings Court Hotel.

Day 9 Saturday, August 9 - Stratford - Lake District

English breakfast in the hotel.

9:00:  Check-out of the hotel and depart for the Lake District.Drive along Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England

1:00:  Arrival into Bowness, free time for lunch.

2:15: Board the steam-boat at pier 1 for a cruise on Lake Windermere from Bowness to Ambleside.

3:00: Arrival into Ambleside, check-in to the Youth Hostel.

Day 10 Sunday, August 10 - Lake District - Edinburgh

Buffet breakfast in the hostel.

8:45:  Check-out of the hostel and load coach.

9:30:  Sight-seeing and Travel to Edinburgh:  Visit to Dove Cottage (home of William Wordsworth) and the Wordsworth Museum, Grasemere. Tel: 015394 35544.

11:00:  Continue to Edinburgh with lunch stop enroute.

3:30:  Arrival into Edinburgh, check-in to the Hostel:

Day 11  Monday, August 11 - Edinburgh (Fringe Festival- WE & JB)

9:00:  Local Edinburgh guide Richard Thomson will meet the group at the Hostel for a morning’s Edinburgh sightseeing tour including admissions to the Palace of Holyrood House  (the Queen’s official residence when in Edinburgh); and Edinburgh Castle.

1:00:  Free time in Edinburgh for lunch and shopping.

3:00:  Meet back at Edinburgh International to load coach for the transfer to Ross Theatre.

4:00 p.m. concert - Edinburgh Fringe Festival - the largest performing arts festival in the World - Open-air concert at the Ross Theatre, Princes Street Gardens

6:00:  Teardown after concert, evening at leisure in Edinburgh.

Opt. sight-seeing/shopping in evening

Day 12 Tuesday, August 12 - Edinburgh - York (St.Sampson's Square - WE & JB)

8:00:  Check out of Edinburgh International and depart for York.

12:30:  Arrival into York, time for some lunch.

1:30:  Assemble at St. Sampson's Square to set up equipment for concert.

2:00:  Concert performance to begin. One Hour - short set for each band

3:00:  Concert to finish. Check-in to the York Youth Hotel:

5:30: Board “The Party Bus”, our own Double Decker bus with onboard DJ. Depart for Dinner.

6:30: Arrival at the historic Albert Pub, Victoria Street. Tel: 020 7222 5577.

8:00:  Depart the pub and transfer to the British Airways London Eye.

8:30:  Arrival at the Eye, board our capsules. The London Eye is the world’s largest observation wheel at 135 metres high and has fantastic views over London’s skyline.

9:00:  “Flight” on the Eye commences.

9:30:  “Flight” finishes, re-board the Party Bus and head back to the hotel.

10:00:  Arrival back to the Central Park.

Day 14Thursday, August 14

4:00 am:  Check out of rooms, room sweep, breakfast

5:00 am:  Leave Hotel for Heathrow Airport

6:00 am:  Flight Group B check in at airport (see manifest)
