Standing on a mountain side, leaning with a 40 pound pack against
a tree, looking down at the miles we have traveled today. It's my turn to
ask, my turn to get the answer. "How far to the top?" Without looking at a
map, the adult says, "About a quarter of a mile." The same as the last
time. We know it's further, and he knows we don't believe him. But no one
says anything, we just continue up, half-heartedly trying to believe we
were almost at the top.
